History and aims

< back to about tyger glyn
Founded in 2001, the origins of the name Tyger Glyn lie in founder, Miranda Rhys Williams' colourful family heritage. Tyger Glyn is a combined reference to Miranda's glamorous and exotic great grandmother, the famous Edwardian novelist, early Hollywood film producer and coiner of the 'It' girl phrase, Elinor Glyn and to William Blake's 'Tyger Tyger Burning Bright'; a tribute to her inspirational late father, Brandon Rhys Williams, a fan of William Blake's art and poetry, who imbued Miranda with his passion for imagination, originality of thought and appreciation of all things beautiful in art, design, nature and life in general.

For Miranda, British women have for too long been encouraged to invest their energy and money on a much coveted designer handbag or piece of costume jewellery, at the expense of couture jewellery. Rhys Williams' ambition is to encourage them to invest in fine, striking and original jewellery, which will not only last generations but at the same time support living artists and their extraordinary skills and craftsmanship.
One of the first pieces. The rough diamond ring in 18ct gold by Poppy Dandiya whose work was the original inspiration for Tyger Glyn.
"It is rare to find an evolving collection of jewellers that is original and refreshing and a buyer committed to searching out designers across the globe."
