Flaws are the same as inclusions. They are 'flaws' in the internal structure of the gemstone. They have advantages and disadvantages.

The disadvantage is that if struck on their flaw, they may be vulnerable to split. This is less likely if the flaw is beneath the surface, which they most often are.

Flawed stones are often deemed less valuable but this does mean one can afford a bigger one.

In our view the major advantage of a flawed stone is that no one flaw is the same as another so gemstones with flaws are completely unique.

Furthermore a flawed stone will often create extraordinary light paths within the stone which can shoot back surprising colours and effects to the surface that can change as the stone moves making the gemstone potentially even more endlessly fascinating.

At Tyger Glyn we are particularly fond of flawed stones because wearing a piece with a flawed stone means you are wearing a wholly individual piece, flawed but still beautiful - much like poeple in fact. We here at Tyger Glyn like to think our flaws are what make us (and our jewellery), more interesting.
